2000-2004: EU Centre of Excellence

Main objectives of the project are:

  • to promote long term visits of Ph. D. students and post-docs, long and short term visits of junior and senior scientists from EU and other European countries to our NMR facility,

  • to increase networking between our NMR facility and NMR sites in the neighbouring and other EU countries,

  • to involve new young and senior scientists from Europe and Slovenia in our efforts to cover new broader areas where NMR spectroscopy could have a great impact as a complementary method, e.g. quality of food, environmental issues, clinical applications, etc. Increased scope is necessarily connected with upgrades in our hardware and instrumentation,

  • to increase networking of our NMR centre with groups in the neighbouring and other EU countries that need or apply NMR spectroscopy in their scientific work,

  • to attract young researchers from Europe to participate in graduate studies, which should lead to the growth of our NMR facility,

  • to promote visits of teachers and researchers from EU and Europe to advance and facilitate training for Ph.D. students at NMR centre,

  • to organize workshops, schools and conferences bringing together researchers who use NMR and associated computational methods in their daily scientific and application work,

  • to broaden areas of support and assistance to our pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries to promote their entering into EU markets,

  • to improve our links with the other European NMR centres via short term visits of our permanent stuff and students. Such collaboration will clearly lead to increased networking between centres all over EU and Europe,

  • to increase collaboration with fellow NMR centres around EU, which should help us and our colleagues to enhance participation in other areas of the 5th and 6th Framework Programme,

  • participation of young researchers from our NMR centre in projects of the 5th Framework Programme leading to the construction and strengthening of links between Slovenia and the Community,

  • increased international co-operation in the thematic programmes,

  • networking with other Centres of Excellence (acronyms: CENEXFOOD (Polish Academy of Sciences, Division of Food Science, Olsztyn, Poland), DESMOL (Center of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies, Lodz, Poland), EMBEU (Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Warsaw, Poland), BIER (Institute of Molecular Biology, Jagiellonian University, Kraków, Poland).
